Community engagement van launched to strengthen local safety

Date Released - 13/02/2026

A community engagement van is travelling around Tameside to boost neighbourhood policing, strengthen community relationships, and support local events across the area.

Funded through Tameside Council’s Community Safety Partnership, the van represents a joint commitment with Greater Manchester Police to improving community safety and increasing visibility across neighbourhoods.

The van will give residents to space to talk to officers face-to-face, giving them a straightforward way to share any concerns about their neighbourhoods and learn how the service can support them.

It will also be used to share important information about local provisions, safety initiatives, and upcoming events.

Tameside Council Executive Member for Towns, Transport and Connectivity Cllr Stephen Homer said: “I’m really looking forward to seeing the introduction of a Community Engagement Van for Tameside. It is a fantastic way to increase visibility and allow our residents to get support in a more approachable, accessible setting. It helps the service boost community presence and aims to build a stronger relationship with residents.”
