Grants now open for projects that build stronger and safer communities

Date Released - 02/03/2026

Community groups in Tameside are encouraged to bid for grant funding to help them deliver projects that improve green spaces, empower voluntary organisations, and help support community safety initiatives.

Tameside Council’s Community Safety Team are launching this year’s Tameside Communities Fund from Greater Manchester Combined Authority, offering grants of up to £2,000.

Now in its fifth year, this is open to Tameside‑registered community organisations, CICs and charities.

To qualify for funding, projects must be based around one of three themes: Preventing Neighbourhood Crime; Reducing Harm & Offending; or Strengthening Communities & Tackling Inequalities.

Grants open on Monday 2 March and close on Friday 27 March 2026.

The projects that meet the criteria will then be invited to attend an event, where the audience will vote for the projects, they wish to receive funding.

Volunteers and local charities have delivered projects that transform green spaces, build friendships, develop skills, support wildlife, grow food, and raise funds for community growth. These activities boost confidence, encourage volunteering, promote diversity, and offer safe, creative opportunities for people of all backgrounds to come together, learn, and support one another.

Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Towns, Transport and Connectivity, Cllr Stephen Homer said: “The grant funding is an excellent opportunity for community organisations and charities to receive some financial support for the fantastic work they do. We also encourage under-represented and new groups to apply!

“This is a great way to invest in our local communities and create a safer Tameside.”
