World Book Day Celebrations in Tameside Libraries

Date Released - 02/03/2026

Tameside Libraries are getting involved in the National Celebration for World Book Day with a cartoonist party and freebie books.

All Tameside Libraries will be giving away free World Book Day books on Thursday 5 March 2026.

Children of all ages will be able to choose their own World Book Day title from a wide selection of books.

World Book Day tokens may have been received from schools or at libraries and can be used, but they are not required to receive a free book. Tokens are valid from 12 February to 15 March 2026. There is a limit of one book per child, available while stocks last.

In addition to the book giveaway, Ashton Library will host a special World Book Day Party from 4pm-5:30pm on Thursday 5 March. Children attending the event will be able to collect their free book, take part in a live draw-along session with cartoonist Marc Jackson, and enjoy themed activities celebrating reading and creativity.

The event at Ashton Library is free to attend and no booking is required. However, spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Children are encouraged to attend in fancy dress.

Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Culture, Cllr Leanne Feeley said: “It’s great to see we have such exciting celebrations for this year’s World Book Day, especially in the National Year of Reading. We really encourage reading for pleasure and these kinds of activities really help children discover and enjoy books. So do come on over!”
