Tameside in Work is providing employment and skills support for Ryecroft Foods employees affected by redundancies – with two having already secured new jobs to move into.
Following the announcement of redundancies at Ryecroft Foods in Ashton-under-Lyne affecting 75 employees, the team from Tameside Council delivered a package of onsite and ongoing support to help individuals navigate their next steps.
They attended the Ryecroft Foods premises, a ready-to-eat breakfast cereal plant making shredded bran and shreddies, seven times before it closed in February, ensuring staff had repeated opportunities to access guidance, ask questions, and receive tailored employability support.
40 employees chose to engage with the team, who delivered a range of support including CV development, job searching, and employability guidance.
Two employees have already secured job offers to move directly into, following the end of their redundancy notice, and Tameside Council staff are continuing to work with the remaining employees who engaged with their support.
Tameside Council Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Culture, Councillor Leanne Feeley said: “I’m incredibly proud of the fast and compassionate response from our Tameside in Work team.
“Redundancy can be a very unsettling experience and our priority has been to ensure every affected employee receives the guidance, reassurance, and practical support they need to move forward with confidence.
“It’s fantastic to see residents already securing new employment and we will continue to assist all those impacted as they take their next steps.”
Employment & Skills offer support to all Tameside residents, whether they are in employment, signed off sick, looking for work, or unsure where to start. They can help with improving skills as well as support with employment aspirations.
