Major investment into new specialist children’s home for Tameside

Date Released - 20/03/2026

A NEW Children’s home, Meadow View, is set to be built in Hyde, offering Tameside’s cared‑for children a supportive environment and a place they can call home.

Meadow View will be a purpose-built home designed for children with disabilities who require short stay breaks or long-term residential care.

The new home will replace the existing children’s home in Dukinfield, ensuring that children and young people can access modern, high-quality accommodation tailored to their needs.

The project is being jointly funded by Tameside Council and the Department for Education (DfE).

Construction will be delivered by John Southworth Builders, with Wilkinson Cowan Partnership acting as Contract Administrator.

Building work is scheduled to begin towards the end of March 2026, with completion expected by March 2027. The home is planned to open in April 2027, providing places for up to nine local children and young people between the two units in the home.

As the project progresses, Tameside Council will work closely with children, young people, and families to shape key aspects of the home’s internal design.

There will be opportunities to get involved in bringing shared spaces to life, including the development of accessible planted beds and a sensory garden.

Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Children’s and Families, Cllr Teresa Smith said: “It’s wonderful that we are able to build a brand-new home for our children and young people and take both you and them on this journey with us as it’s being built.

“Providing a safe, happy and nurturing place they can call home is so important, and this project shows our continued commitment to putting children and families at the heart of everything we do.”
