Hyde Town Hall – including the library - is back open again today (23 March) after being temporarily closed following a fire.
The small fire in the basement, which happened on 24 February, was caused by an external electrical fault and led to some smoke damage in parts of the building.
Hyde Library is now back running with its normal staffed opening hours however Open+ access is still not available for the time being because of a technical fault. For further information see www.tameside.gov.uk/libraries/openingtimes or call 0161 342 4000 (option 1).
Room bookings in the building are also back to running as normal.
Tameside Council Executive Member for Finance and Resources Cllr Hugh Roderick said: “Thank you to everyone for your patience while we’ve been getting the building ready to reopen. While the fire was only very small, it did lead to some smoke damage in the building which we’ve had to address but we’re very pleased to welcome people back into the building now.”
