Hattersley is entering an exciting new chapter of long‑term investment thanks to £20 million Pride in Place funding.
The ten-year Pride of Place programme will build on 20 years of successful regeneration in the locality. The area - which before 2006 was facing a falling population, outdated housing, and limited investment - has been transformed through a strong partnership between Onward Homes, Tameside Council and Homes England.
This long‑term effort has delivered new homes, improved public spaces, better transport links, and expanded community facilities.
The new Pride in Place Programme will introduce a community‑led board, with most members required to live or work in Hattersley. This board will shape a long‑term Regeneration Plan and Investment Strategy, ensuring local people have a strong role in deciding how the £20 million is used.
Key improvements, investments, and achievements in Hattersley to date include:
As the original regeneration programme comes to an end, the Hattersley Land Board will be formally wound up. Remaining funds will support public‑realm improvements and final commitments under existing agreements.
Councillor Andrew McLaren, Deputy Leader (Growth, Housing and Homelessness), said: “Hattersley’s progress over the last 20 years shows what long‑term commitment can achieve. The Pride in Place Programme builds on that strong foundation and, importantly, puts local people in the driving seat. This is about strengthening community pride, improving everyday places, and giving residents a powerful voice in the next decade of regeneration.”
