Proud To Be Me autism information event to support Tameside residents

Date Released - 30/03/2026

People who are Autistic can access information and advice from over 30 organisations at a drop-in support event.

The Proud To Be Me autism information event will be held on Thursday 23 April at Oxford Park Community Sports Centre, Pottinger Street, Ashton-under-Lyne, OL7 0PW.

Organised by Tameside Council, the free event will feature a wide variety of informative marketplace stalls from a range of services, as well as fun activities and opportunities for attendees to share their thoughts on how support can be improved for people who are Autistic in Tameside.

People are welcome to drop in from 12pm-7pm and speak to teams from the council and many partners from across the borough, showcasing what they have to offer.

The bi-annual event takes place during Autism Acceptance Month and is for those of all ages who are Autistic (including those waiting for a diagnosis or self-identifying), their families and carers.

Helpful organisations attending include Routes to Work, Tameside and Glossop Autism Assessment Team, Tameside Carers Centre, Thrive with JoJo, Tameside Arts, and Homes for All.

Attendees can get involved in lots of optional activities, such as cooking, yoga, cycling, arts and crafts, and even visiting the pony patch.

There will be a sensory and breakout room to provide a quiet space available throughout the day, as well as health and wellbeing consultations on offer.

There will also be a focus on increasing awareness and understanding, improving access to education and transition, improving access to employment, and tackling health inequalities.

Interim Strategic Director of Adult Social Care & Health, Joe Kelly said: “I’m delighted that Proud To Be Me is back, following the success of the last event with over 300 people attending and accessing valuable support.

“Not only is there a wealth of information and resources available, I also encourage those who attend to get involved with the important discussions and feedback opportunities.

“We want to help as many people as possible feel heard and supported. Please come along and join us at this fantastic event.”
