Stamford Park welcomes thousands for popular Spring Family Fun Day

Date Released - 30/04/2026

Around 5,000 people enjoyed a brilliant afternoon of free family fun in the sunshine at Stamford Park’s much‑loved Spring Family Fun Day.

Families from across the borough and beyond gathered at the flagship Tameside park on Sunday 26 April to enjoy a packed programme of activities, entertainment and community stalls, all set against the park’s stunning Victorian setting as spring flowers came into bloom.

Running from 12pm to 4pm, the popular annual event, organised by Tameside council’s Operations and Greenspace team, offered something for all ages. Highlights included walkabout performers, free face painting and crafts, a birds of prey display, a climbing wall, inflatable axe throwing and inflatable archery, as well as the ever‑popular RSPCA fun dog show.

The day also featured a wide range of stalls from local charities, community organisations and council teams, including Libraries, Culture, Community Safety and Fostering, giving visitors the chance to find out more about local services and support available in their communities.

To help promote healthier lifestyles, the event was once again smoke free, with Public Health colleagues on hand throughout the day to provide advice and support to anyone who wanted it.

Strategic Director of Housing, Environment & Estates Julian Jackson, said: “Spring Family Fun Day was a fantastic example of what our communities can achieve when we come together. With around 5,000 people attending, beautiful weather and such a positive atmosphere throughout the day, it was wonderful to see families enjoying the park, trying new activities and spending time together.

“I’d like to thank everyone who joined us, along with the staff, volunteers, community groups and partners who helped make the day such a success. Events like this play an important role in supporting our Council Plan priority of creating safe, healthy and inclusive neighbourhoods where people feel proud of where they live.”

The event continues to be one of the highlights of the borough’s events calendar, offering free, accessible activities that encourage people to enjoy outdoor spaces, connect with their communities and make lasting memories.
