Hundreds join at the lively Story Makers Celebration Event

Date Released - 15/05/2026

More than 250 residents joined at an exciting event marking the completion of the creative Story Maker ‘Love Where You Live’ sessions.

The programme, delivered by Tameside Libraries, centred on community cohesion, and was funded by Tameside’s Community Safety Partnership. It focuses on encouraging local pride by exploring a range of themes through engaging, interactive storytelling sessions.

Since October 2025, children have been taking part in creative workshops at Tameside Libraries and on Zoom, contributing ideas for a new children’s picture book, Rosie’s Community Garden, written by award‑winning author Caryl Hart and illustrated by Andy Rowland.

The final celebration took place on 13 May at Dukinfield Town Hall, where families joined the Tameside Council Library and Community Safety Teams for a cheerful wrap‑up event. Every child received a signed copy of the book, and the collaborative story was brought to life with a group reading, led by Simon the Storyteller.

The day was packed with activities, including crafts, a magician, soft play, certificates, a book signing, and much more.

Tameside Council’s Strategic Director of Housing, Environment & Estates, Julian Jackson said: “It was great to see such a strong turnout for this year’s Story Makers celebration event, it’s clear these are very well‑loved sessions and have had a positive impact on hundreds of children and their families.

“Thank you to everyone who got involved and to the Library and Community Safety Teams for all the work from October through to the celebration event.”
