Community Grant Success for North Tameside

Date Released - 19/06/2026

SIX groups were successful at Tameside Community Safety’s latest community grants event.

Held at Broadoak & Smallshaw Community Centre, it covered the borough’s north neighbourhood, which comprises the whole of Ashton.

Residents in attendance listened to each group’s presentation before casting their votes to determine which groups would receive funding.

This process not only supports transparent decision-making but also empowers group members to build confidence and strengthen their communication skills.

The Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Helen Bowden & Consort, welcomed and opened the event, with words of appreciation and gratitude to all the communities who volunteer, making Tameside a better place to live.

To qualify for funding, projects had to be based around one or more of three themes: preventing neighbourhood crime, reducing harm & offending, strengthening communities & tackling inequalities.

The winners were:
• Dipak Distri Vision of Light Dementia Group
• North Tameside District Scouts
• Broadoak & Smallshaw Residents Association
• STAR (Smallshaw Tenants & Residents Association)
• Tameside Health Group, Friends of Waterloo Park
• Tameside Health Group (Ashton Central Mosque)

There was a strong sense of enthusiasm and collaboration among the volunteer groups, with a clear eagerness to support one another, highlighting a shared commitment to building cohesive and sustainable communities.

Cllr Stephen Homer, Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Towns, Transport and Connectivity, said: “Congratulations to all six groups who were successful in receiving funding and thank you for their incredible work and dedication to improving communities across Tameside. It’s inspiring to hear residents and groups come together, share their ideas, and support one another throughout the process. The passion and collaboration shown, particularly in uplifting new groups, truly reflect the strength and kindness of our communities.”
