New Litter Hubs launch across Tameside

EIGHT new community spaces are now operating as Litter Hubs to help keep Tameside clean and tidy.

The Civic Mayor of Tameside joined Tameside Council staff, volunteers and litter champions to officially launch Droylsden Library as a Litter Hub on 24 September. The library is one of eight new hub spaces across the borough offering Litter Hub facilities.

Litter Hubs are located in local community spaces across Tameside. Individuals or groups can book free equipment via a local hub, including hi-vis jackets, litter pickers and black bags. The council will then arrange for the rubbish you have collected to be disposed of appropriately.

Residents and volunteers are encouraged to make use of these hubs and support the upkeep of the borough and protecting the environment. This helps to develop community pride and involve the whole community in helping to keep Tameside tidy, clean and litter-free.

Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Environmental Services and Greenspaces, Cllr Laura Boyle said: “We are thrilled to be launching eight new Litter Hubs across Tameside. They play a vital role in helping to maintain clean and welcoming communities, and our volunteers and litter champions do a fantastic job supporting local litter picks. Our street cleaning teams work hard to clear litter from across the borough, but they cannot keep up with the amount being dropped. Keeping our streets and neighbourhoods clean is everyone's responsibility.

“We hope the launch of these new hubs will encourage more residents to take positive action in their communities, whether that's organising their own litter picks or joining local groups to help care for their local area.”
