Nine-year-old Ruby Bowe from Denton has won the top prize for the Tameside Summer Reading Challenge.
Tameside libraries invited children to discover the joy of reading through the annual Summer Reading Challenge, which this year had a ‘Read to the beat’ theme. Children read six library books over the summer, collecting stickers and rewards along the way.
Everyone who completed the challenge by 19 September was entered into a prize draw. The fantastic prize included a karaoke machine with microphones, disco lights, a disco ball and a selection of books.
A fabulous turnout of more than 1800 children took part in the challenge this summer.
Tameside Council Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Culture, Cllr Leanne Feeley said: “The Summer Reading Challenge does a fantastic job encouraging a love of reading and books, specifically outside of school. Huge congratulations to Ruby, who went above and beyond, reading more than six books during the summer. Her dedication paid off when she was selected as the lucky prize winner!”
Ruby said: “I can't wait to use my prize with my friends”, she will also be proudly showing off her Summer Reading Challenge medal and certificate at school.
