Event supporting unpaid carers to know their rights

Date Released - 15/10/2026

People who look after someone in Tameside are being invited to learn about their rights, access practical advice and connect with a range of local services and organisations this Carers Rights Day.

According to Carers UK, everyday thousands of people across the UK take on caring responsibilities for a partner, family member, friend or neighbour. For many people, it can take years before they realise they are a carer. Often, they simply see what they do as part of supporting someone they love, meaning they may be missing out on valuable support and advice available to them.

On Carers Rights Day, Thursday 19 November, residents are welcomed to join the team at Tameside Carers Centre between 10am and 12 noon to find out more about the support they are entitled to and speak directly with a variety of organisations, including:

The event will provide an opportunity for unpaid carers to access information, ask questions and learn about the services available to support both themselves and the people they care for.

Executive Member for Adult Social Care and inclusivity, Cllr Jackie Lane, said: "Carers make an invaluable contribution to the lives of so many people across Tameside, often putting the needs of others before their own. Carers Rights Day is a fantastic opportunity to help people recognise they are a carer and to learn more about their rights, access advice and discover the range of support available to them locally. We would encourage anyone who looks after a family member, friend or neighbour to come along, speak to our friendly teams and find out how we can help."

The Carers Centre is based at The People Place, Tameside One, Market Place, Ashton-under-Lyne, OL6 6BH.
