NEW monthly drop in sessions have been launched to make it easier for people to find out more about fostering.
The sessions - to be held at the Denton Centre, Acre Street, Denton, on the first Tuesday of every month from 12-3pm – aim to give budding foster carers the opportunity to talk informally to Tameside Council’s foster care support team, ask questions and gain an insight into what the role involves. The next session is on Tuesday 7 March 12-3pm.
It’s hoped the regular drop-ins – part of the Council’s ongoing Best Job in the World foster carer recruitment campaign - will help find more loving and supportive foster homes for the 482 children in care in the borough.
Children’s Social Care Practice Manager Hannah Makin said: “We know many people think about foster caring for a long time before they contact us. Making that first step can be daunting but these sessions are a great ‘no-strings’ opportunity for anyone considering fostering to talk face to face to our friendly team members and find out more.
“We can also put them in touch with other foster carers so they hear first-hand about what the role involves.
“I would urge anyone thinking about fostering to come along and talk to us – supporting children and young people through the milestones of growing up and helping them to be their best can be hugely rewarding and a wonderful career opportunity.”
Tameside Council foster carers receive an excellent ongoing training and support package as well as an attractive allowance.
The fostering team want to hear from people of all ages and backgrounds who may be able to provide a stable and caring home. They need foster homes for children of all ages, including young people in further education and also sibling groups.
