Tameside strikes double gold

Date Released - 24/03/2017

TAMESIDE’S construction sector is building a big reputation. Work to transform Ashton town centre through the demolition of the former council offices and the redevelopment of the market square, has been rewarded with two Considerate Constructors Scheme gold awards.

They recognise the extraordinary commitment that sites like Ashton have made to improve the image of building projects.

Tameside Council’s environmental services team, which was in charge of the market square scheme, received the award for projecting an impeccable image. It was high-profile work and exposure to the public could not have been greater.

Additionally, the award recognised the excellent work to strengthen links with the community and to promote careers in the industry to school and college-leavers.

Carillion Construction also picked up a gold award, in their case demolishing the old Tameside Administrative Complex adjacent to Ashton Market.

Cllr John Taylor, deputy leader of Tameside Council, said: “This recognition is testimony to the hard work of both teams in ensuring that Ashton town centre has stayed open for business throughout this major work, and for keeping disruption to a minimum.

“Winning these Considerate Constructors gold awards is an exceptional achievement and should invoke a sense of pride in everyone involved.”
