Sports awards nominations now open

NOMINATIONS are open for the 2017 Pride of Tameside Sports Awards.

The search is on to find the borough’s top sports performers, teams, groups and individuals before nominations close on August 5.

This year there are two new categories - School Commitment to PE and sport and the Believe and Achieve Award.

The commitment award is open to all Tameside schools that have shown dedication to getting their pupils active and developed provision which covers the curriculum and after-school sports and PE. The Believe and Achieve winner will come from one of the charity’s bursaries awarded over the past year

Other categories are coach of the year, sports achiever of the year, disabled sports achiever of the year, Alex Williams volunteer of the year, unsung hero of the year, club of the year and the changing lifestyle special recognition award.

Mark Tweedie, chief executive of Active Tameside, said: “We are looking forward to a fantastic sports awards this year.

“It is always wonderful to see the community coming together to support what Tameside does in sport, health and wellbeing, and with our new categories it means we get to the opportunity to highlight even more of this great work.”

The sports awards presentation night takes place at Dukinfield Town Hall on Friday, September 22. The winners will represent Tameside at the Greater Manchester Sports Awards.
