Armed Forces Day is on the way

TAMESIDE will once again salute service personnel past and present on Saturday, June 24, when the borough celebrates Armed Forces Day in and around Victoria Park, Denton, with support from the Ministry of Defence.

At 11am there will be a short service of remembrance at Christ Church, Manchester Road.  Then, from 1pm, the focus moves to the Victoria Park bandstand with live music from the Dave Egerton Band, singer Jo Lancaster and the SSAFA (Sailors, Soldiers and Air Force Association) Choir.

There will be a wide range of free family-friendly activities, including a climbing wall, inflatable-assault course, face-painting, balloon modelling, arts and crafts. Many service support organisations will also be in attendance including the Tameside Armed Services Community, Royal British Legion (RBL)and many more. Refreshments will also be available from Victoria Park Community Centre.

Cllr Frank Travis, Tameside Council’s armed forces champion and chairman of Ashton RBL, said: “Our armed forces are at work across the globe risking their lives for us on a daily basis.

“Tameside has a long, proud history with all our services and Armed Forces Day is a great opportunity for the people of the borough to show their support and appreciation of the sacrifices made on their behalf.”
