Use your animal instincts for our Summer Reading Challenge!

Date Released - 05/07/2017

ANIMAL Agents is the title of this year’s Summer Reading Challenge – and it’s open to all Tameside children aged four to 11.

By taking part they can join a band of furry, slippery and feathered friends, specially trained to use their skills and natural instincts to unravel mysteries – with a huge helping of fun along the way.

Organised by the Reading Agency and the public libraries network, the Summer Reading Challenge is simple and fun. Children are encouraged to read six library books over the school holiday with a bookmark to encourage them, smelly stickers to collect along the way, and a keyring, certificate and medal for those who complete the process. There’s a website and app to add to the fun, too.

This year, every child who manages all six books will also be entered into a prize draw sponsored by Active Tameside for the chance to win an experience for eight people at Sky High Adventure, Total Adrenaline, Hyde Leisure Pool or iPlay Zone.

Cllr Ged Cooney, Tameside Council’s executive member with responsibility for libraries said: “The challenge is fun, friendly and absolutely free.

“It’s always very popular with youngsters and last year more than 2,500 took part. This year we want to get even more children involved. It’s a fun and exciting way for them to keep reading over the long summer break.”

There are more free, fun activities in libraries throughout the summer  for all those taking part in Animal Agents, including crafts and treasure hunts and games. For full details of all the activities see
