Tameside showcased as part of national health campaign
Date Released - 31/08/2017
A TAMESIDE walking group has been showcased to highlight the support available to get people active as part of a national health campaign.
Four out of ten adults (43%) aged 40–60 in the North West don’t even manage to walk ten minutes a month at a brisk pace, according to Public Health England (PHE).
Active Tameside was invited to take part in filming with BBC Breakfast to promote PHE’s new One You physical activity campaign to encourage adults to build 10 minutes continuous brisk walking into their day as a simple way to improve their health.
The crew filmed a Walk & Talk session from Active Denton, with partiocpiants being interviewed on the benefits of taking part.
This is one of five, 30 minute Walk & Talk sessions that Active Tameside lead every week and is part of a wider programme of free and low cost activity they deliver including; Walking Football, Tai Chi, Health walks and Couch to 5k programmes.

One You is also promoting a new Active 10 app, developed to show how much brisk walking a person is doing each day and how to incorporate more of it into their lifestyles. You can visit the One You stall in Ashton Market Hall, Tameside, Tuesday 5 September - Friday 8 September, 9am - 4pm, to find out more on how you can keep active.
