Lots of Fun in Libraries Week

FUN Palaces – a people’s festival of science and culture – will launch Libraries Week in Tameside on Saturday, October 7.

It’s four hours of free, fun events at Tameside Central Library, Old Street, Ashton (10.30am to 2.30pm) and the attractions include a climbing wall, archery, face-painting, brass band, circus activities, balloon-modelling, Bollywood dance and model vehicles.

On Monday, October 9, author Chris Longden will be back in her home town to talk about her life in writing at Dukinfield Library, and to discuss her new book “Cuckoo in the Chocolate”.

The session, which takes place between 6 and 7pm, is free and open to all. There’s no need to book.

Libraries Week closes on Saturday, October 14, when Tameside Central Library hosts Click! – an interactive play about cyberbullying and online safety for five to 11-year-olds, and staged by the 2 Boards and a Passion theatre company.ide schools to a public audience! This one-off public performance will take place at Tameside Central Library

Another feature of the week is Computer Buddies – free one-to-one sessions offering help in using a personal computer.

Cllr Ged Cooney, Tameside Council’s executive member with responsibility for libraries, said: “It’s going to be a great week, packed with free fun events. To find out more, drop in at your local library.”
