FREE carousel rides are among the many merry thrills in store as Tameside Christmas Market continues this weekend.
The event, in Market Street, Ashton, got off to a flying start last weekend with hundreds enjoying free rides on the helter skelter as well as shopping, entertainment and festive food and drink.
The Christmas market will continue to run for the next two weekends (1-3 December and 8-10 December) with attractions including free rides on the carousel this weekend and on the ferris wheel for the finale weekend.
Other highlights include over 20 traditional cabin stalls selling handmade crafts and gifts as well as delicious food and drinks. And not to forget Santa’s Grotto, raising money for local charities.
On Saturdays you can enjoy free Storytime with Santa from 10-10.30am while on Sundays there will be free donkey rides from 11am to 3pm.
New for this year will be opportunity to enjoy breakfast with Santa. This special one-off event will take place on Sunday 3 December 10 - 10.45am. The cost is £5 and includes breakfast as well as a gift from Santa. Booking is essential as places are limited, see http://thecraftersfestival.co.uk/store for tickets.
There will also be welcome elves and walkabout characters, which are presenting some great selfie and photo opportunities!
Visitors can relax with refreshments in the heated marquee while enjoying music from local brass bands and singers as well as performances from local dance schools.
The event was officially opened on Friday 24 November by Tameside Mayor Cllr Joyce Bowerman who was joined by Father Christmas and the choir from Inspire Academy, Ashton, who performed beautifully to visitors.
Tameside Council Executive Deputy Leader Cllr John Taylor, who also attended the opening, said: “Tameside Christmas Market got off to a cracking start – we’ve already had some really positive feedback from visitors and traders.
“The Christmas market complements the many vibrant shops and market stalls already on offer, helping to attract more shoppers and boosting business while providing a fun family event for everyone across the borough and beyond. Come along and enjoy the festive atmosphere.”
Opening times as follows: Friday and Saturday: 10am-9pm (some stalls may close at 7pm); Sunday: 10am-4pm.
