Tameside spreads Christmas cheer

Date Released - 14/12/2017

TAMESIDE  came to the fore to spread Christmas cheer for families in need.

The community answered Tameside Council’s call for donations of food and toys/gifts.

The council helped coordinate collections for foodbanks across the borough as well as children’s presents for Tameside 4 Good’s Toy Appeal.

And drop-off points at libraries across Tameside and Customer Services in Clarence Arcade, Ashton, were inundated with kind-hearted donations.

Janine Yates, Tameside Council’s Welfare Rights and Debt Advice Service team manager, said: “The response to the foodbank collection was fantastic. A huge amount of food and drink was donated which will help some of our most vulnerable families over the festive period.

“Your donations have supported eight foodbanks across Tameside, who will be receiving a total of 40 boxes of food and drink over the course of this week. A big thank you to everyone who helped.”

It’s a busy time for foodbanks trying to ensure that vulnerable families and individuals have some food in their cupboards and festive treats for Christmas Day.

And Tameside 4 Good’s Toy Appeal aims to ensure every child, from new-born to 18, living in poverty in Tameside receives a Christmas present.

Council staff also organised their own collections, including chocolate selection boxes, for local children, families and individuals living in poverty.
