Have your say and help secure museum funding

Date Released - 16/01/2018

TAMESIDE Council is seeking grant funding to help redevelop the Museum of the Manchester Regiment on the ground floor of Ashton Town Hall.

To help, the local authority is seeking the public’s views on the future of the museum and what would attract them to visit.

The museum tells the story of the soldiers who served over the regiment’s 200 year history.

In 2015, museum items were relocated to Portland Basin Museum and the Local Studies and Archives in Ashton while building work to the adjacent council offices takes place.

The timeline for reopening the museum back in the town hall depends on securing this funding.

Emma Varnam, Assistant Director of Operations and Neighbourhoods, said: “Preserving Tameside’s proud heritage is a significant responsibility. We need as many people as possible to take part in this consultation to help secure funding that will bring forward the reopening of this important link to our past.”

You can help by taking part in the consultation, which takes only a few minutes to complete and is available at www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/RegimentMuseumSurvey.

The consultation will remain open until February 9.
