New interim chair for Tameside Safeguarding Childrenís Board

Date Released - 24/01/2018

TAMESIDE Safeguarding Children’s Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Gill Frame as the new interim Chair.

The Board plays a crucial role in keeping children and young people safe, bringing together a wide range of agencies such as the Council, Health and Police.

Gill, who brings more than four years’ experience of chairing safeguarding boards, will lead the board as it puts in place a new model of working in response to changes in national statutory guidance.

This new Working Together to Safeguard Children guidance ends the current role of LSCBs and puts the responsibility on the Council, CCG and Police to determine and lead new local safeguarding arrangements  to promote improved joint working between agencies.

Gill currently chairs a number of boards in Greater Manchester and Cheshire. She has vast experience of working at strategic level across a number of partnerships and previous roles have included as an executive leader with a Primary Care Trust and director with a large community/mental health provider. Her professional background is in health and she is a qualified nurse and a health visitor.

As interim Chair, Gill will ensure that the Tameside Safeguarding Children’s Board fulfils its role in challenging and supporting the Council on its journey to improve children’s services.

She said: “I have a strong interest in multi-agency/multi professional working in order to improve the outcomes for children and young people and have led a number of change programmes that have led to integrated models of care. I am passionate about safeguarding children and making sure that we all work together to drive improvement in how we work with children.

“I see the next 12 months as a challenging time for us all, as we start to move towards the future in line with awaited revised Working Together Guidance and I am looking forward to working with all colleagues in Tameside from the front line to the strategic leads to enable this change to progress; whilst maintaining a strong focus on getting it right for our most vulnerable children.”

Gill takes over from David Niven who has been in the role for three years and whose contract has come to an end.  David has been greatly appreciated for his contribution.

Tameside Council Chief Executive and Tameside & Glossop Clinical Commissioning Group Accountable Officer Steven Pleasant said on behalf of Tameside Safeguarding Children Board: “We are delighted to have appointed Gill, who we know will bring valued expertise and insight to her new role. We are confident she will do a first-rate job in taking us through this transitional period and ensuring the board is best placed to continue its role in keeping children and young people safe.”
