Young people’s task to explore Snowdonia

Date Released - 20/02/2018

YOUNG people will get the chance to enjoy an educational trip to Snowdonia thanks to Tameside Armed Services Community (TASC).

TASC was successful with a funding application to the Field Studies Council, which provides informative and enjoyable opportunities for young people to discover and explore the environment.

It has been awarded £3,000 to take a team of 24 looked-after young people from Tameside to Snowdonia on two separate day trips, returning to the borough each evening.

The application was completed by TASC Level 2 Apprentice Beth Robinson in conjunction with veterans from TASC.

The project will see young people aged 12 to 17 learn about the environment and take part in adventure type activities. It aims to develop their confidence and team-working skills and will be a great addition to their CVs.

Tameside Council’s Children’s Services and staff volunteers will help with the trips. They are still being organised but are due to take place in late spring.

Cllr Frank Travis, Tameside Council’s Armed Forces Lead, said: “What a fabulous opportunity for our young people to visit beautiful Snowdonia to experience a wealth of challenging and exciting outdoor activities alongside our ex-service community.”

The fund focuses on providing opportunities for vulnerable children who may not otherwise have access to such experiences.
