Care users hit a high note with famous orchestra

Date Released - 22/03/2018

RENOWNED musicians helped care home residents and groups from across Tameside create their own musical theatre.

Tameside Council’s Public Health team joined forces with Manchester Camerata to engage people through music and drama.

As well as performing in concert halls, the orchestra, famous for its innovation, conducts a pioneering community programme to promote social change.

The creative training programme in Tameside aimed to enable group leaders from each organisation to lead their own music, drama and arts sessions with their residents and service users.

Participants from Age UK, Stroke Association, Auden House Residential Home, Hearts & Minds and the Johnny Barlow Theatre Company came together at Loxley House in Dukinfield on Thursday 8th March to share the pieces of music theatre they created in the sessions.

The Civic Mayor of Tameside, Councillor Joyce Bowerman, and her Consort Mr Fred Bowerman attended with everyone enjoying a great day.

Manchester Camerata collaborates with everyone from iconic bands to schoolchildren with its projects including music-led dementia research.
