Alex shines at Greater Manchester Health and Care Champion Awards

Date Released - 16/07/2018

CONGRATULATIONS to Tameside Council worker Alex Milhench who was recognised in the new Greater Manchester Health and Care Champions Awards.

The awards are the first in Greater Manchester to recognise members of the workforce who regularly go above and beyond to improve the health and wellbeing of others.

Alex  was shortlisted in the Apprentice of the Year category and, although she did not win, she was named as one of the top three finalists.

Her nomination highlighted how she started an apprenticeship with the Council at the age of 17 and had since successfully securing a fixed term position for the Family Information Service as an Information, Advice and Guidance Officer. Among her many attributes, she was recognised for hugely increased confidence, a positive attitude, commitment to her personal development, exceptional customer care skills and excellent IT knowledge - which she has shared to help develop other members of the team.

She has also used her IT skills to reorganise the Council’s Service Information Directory (SID) for children and young people - a really valued piece of work.

Alex travelled in style to the awards on 13 July in a silver Rolls Royce organised as a personal treat by Team Manager Janet Perry, who accompanied her along with Paula Dowd from Family Information service and Transition Support Manger Fran Halpin.

Tameside Council Executive Leader Cllr Brenda Warrington said: “This is much deserved recognition for Alex, who clearly shines in her role and is committed to doing her best to improve the lives of others. Well done Alex, we are so proud you were named as one of the top three finalists across all of Greater Manchester - you are a credit to yourself and to Tameside and clearly have a bright future ahead of you.”

The awards were organised by Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership, with support from the Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham who was in attendance along with BBC news presenter Annabel Tiffin who hosted the evening.
