FUN Palaces – a highly successful initiative in which community is king – is taking on a new look in Tameside this year.
This time libraries are in charge and on Saturday, October 6, they will be opening their doors to allow people to try taster sessions in areas ranging from chess to drama and IT to baby yoga massage.
Whichever way you look at it, Fun Palaces remains a right royal way to bring together the community in a celebration of the arts and sciences.
Cllr Leanne Feeley, Tameside Council’s executive member for lifelong learning, said: “The great thing about Fun Palaces is that everyone is welcome to come in and take part. With five libraries hosting taster sessions there’s lots for people to enjoy.”
Based on an idea from theatre director Joan Littlewood and architect Cedric Price, the first Fun Palaces took place in 2014 when 138 venues, locations, communities and groups created their own celebrations.
