Pride of Tameside Sports Awards 2018

Date Released - 03/10/2018

COMMONWEALTH women’s boxing champion Stacey Copeland was guest of honour at the Pride of Tameside Sports Awards.

Stacey, who comes from Hyde, joined the Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Denise McNally, at Dukinfield Town Hall for an evening celebrating the dedication, motivation and passion of coaches, volunteers, schools and clubs in the borough, as well as the hard work and achievements of sportsmen and women.

A record number of nominations were received for the awards, which reflects the huge number of people involved in sport in Tameside.

Cllr Leanne Feeley, Tameside Council’s executive member for lifelong learning, said: “It was fantastic to see the awards get such a warm and enthusiastic response from the community, who clearly value the many people who put so much time and effort into sport in Tameside.

“It was very inspiring to meet Stacey, a woman who has achieved so much, and I hope the awards will inspire others to get involved in sport by taking part themselves or by helping others.”
