WELL done Tameside! Whenever there’s a good cause to support, you can bank on the borough to come up trumps. We asked for donations to our Christmas toy and foodbank appeals and the response was tremendous.
Council and NHS Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) staff took donations to collection points within their own buildings, while members of the public dropped off contributions at libraries and at Tameside Customer Services in Ashton.
So many items were handed in – seasonal treats, tins, packets, bottles, jars and cartons – that we were able to make up 37 large boxes of food which will be shared among eight food banks across the borough.
It was the same story in terms of Tameside 4 Good’s toy appeal. So much generosity was shown that collection bins were soon overflowing.
Cllr Oliver Ryan, Tameside Council’s executive member for children’s services, said: “This has been a wonderful collective effort, and I want to sincerely thank everyone who donated to these good causes, as well all the officers who voluntarily helped to sort and transport the many items that were given to us.
“The aim of the two appeals is to make sure every child in the borough has something to look forward to on Christmas morning, irrespective of their family’s finances, and that everyone gets something good to eat.
“Thanks to the generosity of Tameside’s residents, I’m confident we’re close to achieving those goals.”
