HALF the jobseekers who attended a Tameside Council pre-employment course have already found work – eight of them in the borough’s schools.
The course, organised by the authority’s employment and skills team in partnership with Robertson Group, Tameside College, Jobcentre Plus and Inspire to Independence (i2i), was attended by 20 people and took place at the i2i offices on Stamford Street, Ashton.
Participants were given the chance to gain health and safety and food hygiene qualifications from Tameside College.
Tailored provision gave each person the skills needed to apply for catering and cleaning assistant roles within Robertson’s facilities management operation. These included interview preparation and travel planning.
Cllr Leanne Feeley, Tameside Council’s executive member for lifelong learning, said: “Increasing employment opportunities within the borough is a key aim for Tameside Council.
“I would like to extend special thanks to Robertson Group for their help as it’s very encouraging when a large business gives its support.
“It’s also very satisfying to know that all those who attended the course found it to be useful, and 70% rated it as excellent or very good.”
