TAMESIDE Cultural Services have put together a programme of February half-term activities that all youngsters should find appealing.
Children’s theatre and outdoor activities combine with old favourites such as Meet Tommy Atkins and Make Do and Play drop-in art sessions to provide a week of fun.
In “Rabbit Girl and the Search for Wonder”, something has happened that no one saw coming, so Rabbit Girl and her dad have done what they do best and headed off into the wilderness.
Join them round the campfire at the Astley Cheetham Gallery, Stalybridge, on Tuesday, February 19, for a family show full of music, animation and puppetry. The 55-minute production is perfect for children aged eight and under.
There are performances at 11.30am and 2.30pm, and tickets are £3 per child with one accompanying adult admitted for free. Call 0161 342 4144 or visit www.ticketsource.co.uk/tameside-mbc
The following day (Wednesday, February 20) it’s over to Hyde Park for Nature and Nestboxes where you can give our feathered friends a little help for spring and the nesting season. Build a birdbox to take home and try a wild craft activity.
Drop in anytime between 11am and 3pm near the orchard in Hyde Park. There’s a £3 charge for each nestbox.
Make, Do and Play – artist-led craft activities for children – take place at Portland Basin, Ashton, on Tuesday and Thursday (11am to 3pm). On Wednesday, the museum offers the chance to Meet Tommy Atkins and find out first-hand about the conditions British soldiers experienced on the First World War’s Western Front. You can see and touch the equipment the carried and the food they ate.
Cllr Leanne Feeley, Tameside Council’s executive member for lifelong learning, said: “Although everyone looks forward to school holidays it can be surprisingly easy for boredom to set in. Luckily, with activities like these on offer, February half-term should be full of fun.”
