Older Tameside residents could be eligible for a Pension Top Up

Date Released - 18/07/2022

Older Tameside residents are urged to check their eligibility for Pension Credit and other related benefits as an estimated £5.2 million is unclaimed in Tameside. Drop in support sessions will take place around the borough from July 21st to help raise awareness, support residents in checking their eligibility and help with applications.

Pension Credit gives you extra money to help with your living costs if you are over State Pension age. Thousands of people across Greater Manchester are not receiving the support they are eligible for. This includes Pension Credit, Attendance Allowance, Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support. Those who receive Pension Credit may also be entitled to help with health costs, a free tv licence and heating bills in winter.

Community drop in support sessions will take place twice a week across the borough from Thursday July 21 to Tuesday August 9. These sessions will provide assistance and advice regarding the Pension Top up.

Councillor Jaqueline North, Tameside Councils Executive Member for Exchequer Services, said:

“Come along to one of our drop in sessions and check if you are one of the many older residents living  in Tameside who are not receiving the support from the government  to which you could  be entitled.”

“Even if you own your home, have substantial savings or have a private pension, you may still be entitled to Pension Credit. It’s always worth checking if you are eligible even if you’ve already checked in the past. It isn’t long or complicated to do and we will be there to help.
