Denton to Host Road Safety Day of Action

Date Released - 11/06/2024

TAMESIDE Community Safety, the police and Manchester Bike Kitchen are teaming up to host a road safety roadshow at Crown Point North, Denton, on Friday 14 June.

Between 10am and 2pm you can try on some drunk goggles to see how dangerous it is to drink and drive, take part in a fun quiz on the Highway Code to test your knowledge of road signs, and put your name to the road safety pledge to support safe driving.

Police officers will be present to listen to concerns about road safety and provide advice, and also to offer information on bike nuisance, explaining what it is and how to report it and gather intelligence for them.

Manchester Bike Kitchen will have low-cost refurbished bikes on offer for anyone who wants to give cycling a go, along with tips and advice on maintenance.

Cllr Vimal Choksi, Tameside Council’s executive member for towns and communities, said: “As a ward councillor, I know that road safety in all its forms is one of the biggest concerns for our residents. That could be dangerous driving, motorbike nuisance or inconsiderate cyclists on the pavements.

“Our road safety roadshow is a great chance to find out how these problems can be addressed – not only by reporting and discussing them, but by making sure we know how to do our part by always behaving as safely as possible.”
