Take a journey across the world at The Market Gallery exhibition

Date Released - 12/06/2025

Tameside resident Ken Morris is displaying an array of incredible wildlife photographs from his travels around the world at The Market Gallery in Ashton-under-Lyne.

After retiring in 2004, Ken has been able to pursue his key interests in travel and photography, with his most recent collection specialising in scenic and wildlife imagery.

The exhibition is titled "Wildlife around the World". It includes photos taken from Ken’s visits to Alaska to Antarctica by way of Canada, Costa Rica, Africa, Sri Lanka and Australia, and some at home - providing an amazing display, including one looking down the throat of a Crocodile, for the public to visit.

Ken said: “Wildlife photography is down to chance and offers a different challenge than other styles of photography. My aim is to share a wide variety of the creatures I have seen on my extensive travels.”

Ken’s interest in photography sparked in 1965, once he purchased his first 35mm camera, a second-hand Kodak Retina IIC. He began by taking photos of steam trains in Ireland as they were being withdrawn.

This is his third consecutive exhibition in Market Place.

Tameside Council Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Culture Cllr Leanne Feeley said: “Ken has provided another incredible photography exhibition and is an amazing example of local, creative talent here in Tameside.  The photographs are a fantastic display of wildlife, and we want to encourage residents to visit the exhibition to show appreciation for Ken’s expertise in photography. Head over to Market Place in Ashton-under-Lyne to see the exhibition for yourself!”

Ken is also a Tameside Community Champion - the Community Champions programme was launched in 2020 to reach out to local people with information about local services and health and wellbeing.  If you wish to join the programme or would like more information, visit www.tameside.gov.uk/communitychampions
